Leicester Adult Education College renamed one of their meeting rooms, the small hall, to the Satta Hashem Room in honour of the well known Iraqi artist who has two large circular paintings (Sight and Insight 1 & 2) on show in the room.

Satta’s connection with the college goes back to the year 2000 and he was featured in the college’s 50th anniversary newspaper the following year. Since then he has been a supporter of adult learning in Leicester and his reputation as an artist throughout the country has grown.

A select group of people gathered on the evening of 24th to celebrate the opening of the Satta Hashem room with poetry, music and art. Staff past and present accompanied by a number of people from the art world enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, something traditional to eat and toasted the success of Satta and the Satta Hashem room.

The room will continue to show pieces of Satta’s work in the future and will become a meeting and events room available for hire.
