Our Childcare, Education and Health courses provide qualifications that meet the needs of employers. Whether you are unemployed and seeking to find work or already in work you can achieve a useful and valued qualification. The courses may also be useful for those wishing to study for their own personal development.

Childcare

How to Enrol

Enrolment on all Childcare and Classroom Assistants courses will be subject to initial assessment and interview. Dates are available from the centres concerned.

We have Childcare courses at level 1, 2 and 3 and offer up-to-date qualifications valued by employers. We can also support learning by including help with English and Maths to National Test level and making available childcare grants to help remove financial barriers to learning.
We offer the following Childcare qualifications:
 
Preparing to Work with Children
This is a Level 1 award delivered over one year and is an ideal “starting point” for all adults who are interested in finding out more about childcare and working in schools.and consists of 3 modules; Understanding Child Development, Understanding the Importance of Play, Adult Literacy National Test.  

NVQ 2 - Childcare Learning and Development
This is a National Vocational Qualification for people who are working in childcare, in either a paid or voluntary capacity.  An Introductory Certificate in working with children, or similar, is desirable but not essential. This course is free to candidates who do not already have a level 2 qualification or 5 GCSEs.

NVQ 3 - Childcare Learning and Development
A four term course for those with a level 2 qualification in childcare who work face-to-face with children and young people at a supervisory level; either working unsupervised or supervising others. You must be employed in childcare OR have a placement for 15 hours per week, where they are willing to allow you to be assessed in a supervisory role.

Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce

This qualification replaces all other existing Level 3 awards for people who want to work with children and young people.  It has 3 endorsed pathways for following the occupational standards
Early Learning and Childcare (EYMP) units
Learning, Development and Support Services (LDSS) units
Social Care (SCMP) units

 Education

We offer Classroom Assistants courses (NVQ2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools). Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) level 3/4. Internal Verifier (V1) and Assessors Award A1.

First Aid

You can gain qualifications in Paediatric First Aid, First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work and Manual Handling.

Food Safety

We offer the CIEH Award in Food safety in Catering at level 2.
