More than 160 City Council employees enjoyed free learning sessions during Festival of Learning week 26th – 30th October 09.

The sessions, organised by the Leicester Adult Skills & Learning Service’s PCDL team, ranged from Gift Wrapping to Wine Tasting and proved a big hit with learners.

Arranged as part of the Government’s Learning Revolution in Informal Learning, learners were able to swap books throughout the week, attend gift wrapping, language lunches, poetry and jewellery workshops as well as enjoying wine tasting, beer sampling, a walk and talk along New Walk and an antiques roadshow.

Many of the learners found the sessions a great way to fend off stress. “Brought out a creative side I never knew I had! Excellent. Great stress management.” said learners on the gift wrapping workshop.

One of the organisers Catriona Kelly Curriculum Manager for PCDL, said “We were enormously impressed with the turnout and we were delighted to see so many people from different areas of the council working together” she added, “We now have a clearer idea of what people enjoy doing and look forward to putting on more informal learning events.” She also praised the commitment and enthusiasm of LASALS staff that put the week of events together.

It is hoped to run more events during Adult Learners Week in May 2010, so keep an eye on the LASALS website for more information about future informal learning opportunities.
